Longton remain at the top of the league, but only have a slender one point advantage over Knypersley as they came a cropper at local rivals Hem Heath.
The home side dismissed Longton for just 154 thanks to a superb spell of bowling of 8-54 from Dan Milligan. Only Tom Birks and Pete Wilshaw put up any real resistance for the leaders and Double H coasted to a six wicket win thanks to 40 from professional Mo Hussain.
Knypersley’s game at home to bottom club Leycett was a victim of the weather with lost overs meaning both teams had to settle for a draw. The visitors 230-8 was built around D Darsharipraya’s unbeaten 73 and Rob Heath’s 45. Knype only managed to fit in 34 overs and had reached 108-4 by the close.
Porthill are right in the picture after the redoubtable Faisal Akbar was once again the star. They hammered Little Stoke by five wickets with Akbar taking seven wickets and then following this up by smashing an unbeaten 77 after his team was in trouble at 15-3. Only Richard Harvey with 36 gave any worthwhile resistance to Akbar.
Leek have slipped back into the relegation zone after their loss and Moddershall’s victory. Leek were beaten at home by Audley thanks to a fantastic all-round game from Richard Holloway(62 and three wickets). Leek’s 141 was never going to be enough, and despite K Stoute’s 3-52 Dave Fairbanks added valuable support to Holloway to ensure victory for Audley.
Meanwhile, Moddershall turned the form book upside down after they defeated visiting Wood Lane. Matt Hagan led from the front for the visitors with 77, but Harish Reddy (4-9) and Matt Stupples (3-63) ensured that a total of 173 was not going to be enough as the home side won by four wickets for 20 valuable points.
In the division’s remaining game, Stone won at Burslem. New pro Quaisser Abbas had a great debut for Stone as he took 4-29 as Burslem totalled 174 al out. Abbas then top scored with 56 as they squeezed home by two wickets despite the best efforts of Michael Brown (3-37) and Aslan Mir (4-61).
