Premier Division Review 4th July 2009

Longton remain at the top of the league, but only have a slender one point advantage over Knypersley as they came a cropper at local rivals Hem Heath.

The home side dismissed Longton for just 154 thanks to a superb spell of bowling of 8-54 from Dan Milligan. Only Tom Birks and Pete Wilshaw put up any real resistance for the leaders and Double H coasted to a six wicket win thanks to 40 from professional Mo Hussain.

Knypersley’s game at home to bottom club Leycett was a victim of the weather with lost overs meaning both teams had to settle for a draw. The visitors 230-8 was built around D Darsharipraya’s unbeaten 73 and Rob Heath’s 45. Knype only managed to fit in 34 overs and had reached 108-4 by the close.

Porthill are right in the picture after the redoubtable Faisal Akbar was once again the star. They hammered Little Stoke by five wickets with Akbar taking seven wickets and then following this up by smashing an unbeaten 77 after his team was in trouble at 15-3. Only Richard Harvey with 36 gave any worthwhile resistance to Akbar.

Leek have slipped back into the relegation zone after their loss and Moddershall’s victory. Leek were beaten at home by Audley thanks to a fantastic all-round game from Richard Holloway(62 and three wickets). Leek’s 141 was never going to be enough, and despite K Stoute’s 3-52 Dave Fairbanks added valuable support to Holloway to ensure victory for Audley.

Meanwhile, Moddershall turned the form book upside down after they defeated visiting Wood Lane. Matt Hagan led from the front for the visitors with 77, but Harish Reddy (4-9) and Matt Stupples (3-63) ensured that a total of 173 was not going to be enough as the home side won by four wickets for 20 valuable points.

In the division’s remaining game, Stone won at Burslem. New pro Quaisser Abbas had a great debut for Stone as he took 4-29 as Burslem totalled 174 al out. Abbas then top scored with 56 as they squeezed home by two wickets despite the best efforts of Michael Brown (3-37) and Aslan Mir (4-61).

 
Division 1A Review 4th July 2009

Elworth will be looking nervously over their shoulder as Barlaston’s excellent form continued.

Elworth had no answer to home pro Irfan Fazil’s 6-54 as they fell 71 runs short at Whitmore for whom J Cartlide scored a steady half-century in their 181. The visitors also struggled against Sibtain Haider (3-12) as they were eventually dismissed for just 110.

They are now just 9 points ahead of Neil Davies’ Barlaston who took 25 points after a bold declaration paid dividends at struggling Crewe. Ben Grange top scored for Barlaston as the visitors declared after just 48 overs on 193-8. Mark STanyer was then the pick of the visiting attack, as his four wickets ensured Crewe finished on150.

Sandyford might be wishing they had declared after the weather put paid to what looked certain victory at home to Blythe. Sandyford’s Craig Leese and Jon Barnett both smashed half centuries as they were bowled out for 223. In the 38 overs left to Blythe they were on the rack as Gareth Rigby and Andy Barnett both took four wickets as the visitors were rocking on 86-8.

Inconsistent Norton had a comfortable win at home to Stafford as Greg Willott had another good day for the home side. He took four wickets and then  saw his team home to a six wicket victory with the bat after Stafford were dismissed for 141.

An unbeaten 67 run partnership between Shaun Rashid and Adam Alcock saw Cheadle home to a four wicket victory as they beat visitors Rode Park at Tean Road. The visitors totaled 168 and looked in the hunt after having the home side 102-6, but Rashid and Alcock saw the Moorlands men home.

Kidsgrove are not having the best of seasons and were convincingly beaten at home by improving Meir Heath who knocked off Kidsgrove’s 206-6 declared in just 37 overs.

Division 2A Review 4th July 2009

It’s tight at the top of this league as just 17 points separates the top 5 teaams, and top of the league Oulton went run-crazy at fellow promotion hopefuls Ashcombe Park. The visitors amassed a gigantic 350-5 declared in just 52.3 overs, thanks to a run a ball century from P PJeypragashtharan and an amazing cameo from Danny Kyle who hit 70 in just 32 balls.

Ashcombe were never in the hunt and settled for batting points on 179-6 as the rain put paid to any positive result, with Dave Proffitt hitting a half-century for the home side.

Checkley were the big movers in the league as they leapt to third after professional Justin Grainger was the star of their home win over bottom club Stone/SP. Grainger hit 72 as James Ecclestone’s five wickets saw Checkley dismissed for 170. But Grainger’s 5-49 ensured that the home side gained maximum points and are now just two points off a promotion spot.

Meakins and Weston are two sides who don’t struggle for runs, and they shared well over 500 runs. Raj Kumar again shone with 90 for Weston as the visitors racked up 265-9 declared as home pro Ranil Dhammika claimed 7-63. Dhaammika then led a concerted charge for victory with a superb 103 as rain cruelly denied Meakins victory as they closed on 257-5 from just 40 overs.

Caverswall are struggling and are now second bottom after losing at fellow strugglers Bignall End. Owen Price and M Martin both showed resistance, but Carsa had no answer to Matthew Saive’s 6-47 as they were dismissed for just 137. The home side had little difficulty in knocking off the required runs for the loss of just three wickets.

Silverdale are in good form and they won at an Alsager side that are now sliding down the table. The home side declared on 215-6 thanks to Paul Pickford’s unbeaten century yet Mitchell Stokes added to his four wickets with a superb 93 to see his side home to a four wicket win.

In the division’s remaining game Newcastle picked up a welcome win with a 23 points victory at Betley.  J Nadir had a fine day for ‘Castle with four wickets and 71 as his team racked up 256 and then bowled their hosts out for 227. The visitors did lose 2 points though for their over rate.
 

Division 3A Review 4th July 2009

Moddershall A are top of the league after previous leaders Bagnall lost at home to rapidly improving Oakamoor at home.

Ed Brookes was the hero for the visitors with 6-31 as Oakamoor successfully defended their total of 167 (A Ayub 56, A Palmer 3-41). Ravenscroft completed a good day personally for him with a half-century, but it was in vain as Bagnall fell short on 120 all out.

Moddershall A had the better of a draw at Hanford, with visiting pro U Indrasiri scoring a century in their 268-8 declared and Hanford replying with 142-5. Endon were the only winners out of the top sides as they destroyed visitors Woore by 162 runs.

Endon scored well throughout their innings, with John Powell top-scoring with 63 as they totalled a healthy 229-6 declared. Michael Dawson was unbeaten on 45 at the close of innings and then followed this up with 5-21 as Woore were dismissed for just 67. Impressive youngster Jordan Wever gave Dawson excellent support with 4-18.

Woore are second bottom, but well in front of Norton-in-Hales who were hammered at home by Porthill Park A. The Tractor Boys were dismissed for just 86 with only Martin Rowley’s 34 any resistance to J Butler (3-35) and B Cotton (3-13). J Beach’s 34 saw Porthill A to an easy 8 wicket victory.

Wedgwood/Stanfields are the form team in the division and they won at a canter at Hem Heath/Forsbrook. Lee Smith’s 58 was the top score in the visitors 210-4 declared and despite 36 from Simon Wood, they had no answer to Ade Lello (5-5) as the visitors collected 25 points.

Meir Heath won easily at home to Eccleshall after declaring at 200-5 and then dismissing their opponents for 117. Chris Mellor had a good day for the home side with 4-17 and 42, as only T Cole showed the fight necessary for the visitors with a solid 33.
