PREMIER DIVISION REVIEW 25th July 2009

 

Leycett won for the first time and have moved off the bottom of the Premier League table. They trounced Hem Heath by 120 runs on a day of no drawn matches in the top division.

 

Derbyshire’s Dan Redfern was to the fore of Leycett’s victory as he hit 41 and took 5-16 as his side were easy winners. Brother Tom smashed 74 (Mo Hussain 5-86) as the home side totalled 206-7 declared, and then Leycett rustled the visitors out for just 86.

 

Leek are now propping up the table after they were beaten at home by Little Stoke. Richard Adams continued his good form with 61 for Richard Harvey’s side in their 164-7. Tom Steele and Richard Cooper both took three wickets for Leek. Dan Colclough’s five wicket haul swung the game Little stoke’s way and they dismissed their hosts for 117, sending Jamie Cullerton’s men deeper into relegation trouble. Little Stoke are now just 3 points behind the leaders, who both won again yesterday.

 

Knypersley and Longton are level at the top after both won comfortably after bating first. Paul Goodwin’s 69 was the backbone of Knypersley’s 165 at Porthill (Fazl Akbar 7-60) and Andy Marshall and Darren Butler chipped in with three wickets apiece as they bowled out their hosts for just 77.

 

Roger Sillence’s half century ensured that Longton reached a total of 181 at home to Moddershall. M Jahangir and R Bagnall were the pick of the visitors’ attack, and wickets fell regularly during Moddershall’s reply, with all Longton bowlers taking wickets. Modd were eventually dismissed for 117.

 

Wood Lane’s title challenge has faltered in recent weeks and they lost a low scoring game at Stone. Chasing Stone’s 143, Matt Hagan’s side were dismissed for 111 with Qaiser Abbas taking three wickets. Steve Norcup had earlier taken five wickets as stone were bowled out for 143, with Shaun Jenkinson hitting a crucial 42 for the home side.

 

On a day of few runs Burslem’s Anthony Sheeran (5-68) must have felt that he had put his side in a commanding position after Audley were dismissed for 145. But Ugasen Govander and Andrew Johnson both claimed four wickets as the visitors were eventually bowled out for 121. Both teams are in mid-table.

 

 

DIVISION 1A REVIEW 25th JULY 2009

 

Barlaston took a massive step towards regaining their place in the top league after beating second placed Elworth by four wickets.

 

The Cheshire side could only muster 101 with Ben Grange doing the damage for Neil Davies’ side with 4-29. Richard Sharpe’s fighting unbeaten 31 saw the visitors home and they now lead the table by 19 points.

 

Whitmore are making a move for another promotion as they won away at troubled Stafford. Irfan Fazil’s half century saw Whitmore to a total of 135 despite Sean Connolly’s seven wickets, and Fazil completed a superb all round performance by taking

6-27 as the hosts were shot-out for just 50. Whitmore are now 31 points behind Elworth.

 

Norton’s topsy-turvy season got back on track after they put Kidsgrove deeper into relegation trouble at Community Drive. Greg Willott, Tony Dutton and Dave Reynolds all took three wickets to dismiss Kidsgrove for 91, well short of their target of 182.

 

Cheadle are just behind Norton as they won at Blythe. Martin Bailey was once again the star Blythe batter as his 79 was the mainstay of the home side’s 226, with left arm spinner Simon Plant taking six wickets. Will Riley and Adam Alcock then hit crucial half centuries for Plant’s men as they won by three wickets despite Pete Finch’s four wicket haul.

 

Rode Park put Crewe further in the relegation mire after a low scoring game. Nauman Alavi’s 4-32 had looked to have swung the game in Crewe’s favour as they dismissed their hosts for just 119, but Richard Irons was too hot to handle for the visitors who crumbled to just 78 all out.

 

The cards and stump cricket were out in force at Meir Heath as their game against visitors Sandyford was abandoned without a ball bowled.

 

 

DIVISION 2A REVIEW 25th JULY 2009

 

Ashcombe remain top after they hammered Caverswall. Dave Clowes was in devastating form with the ball for the Park as he produced superb figures of 7-29 as Carsa were rustled out for just 104. Ahmed Gondal wasted no time in ensuring an early finish by smashing a rapid 51 in 37 balls to see his side home.

 

On a day of low scores there were two more at Bignall End, where visitors Checkley moved into the top two for the first time this season. Only John Pickle’s with 47 had any answer to the seam of Matt Saive (5-58) but Pickle’s knock was crucial as Checkley’s 123 was more than enough as Ian Carr’s six wickets shot Checkley to maximum points.

 

Oulton are third after an early finish at home to a Newcastle side in relegation trouble. Rob Spruce and Pradeep Jeypragastharan both took 5 wickets as ‘Castle were dismissed for 68.

 

Stone SP look all but doomed as they were hammered by ten wickets at home by visiting Alsager. Paul Tibbetts and Paul Hampshire both took four wickets for Alsager and then Hampshire and Oliver Sadler had no trouble in knocking off their target.

 

Weston got back to winning ways as they won at home to high-flying Betley. Darren Snape’s half century saw Betley to a total of 178, with Phil Stockton taking four wickets in a good season for him. Qas Haleem’s unbeaten 69 ensured Weston reached their target for the loss of just five wickets, a result that sees both teams remain hot on the heels of the top two.

 

In the division’s remaining game, Silverdale had much the better of their draw against visiting Meakins with the visitors hanging on at 97-8 in reply to Silverdale’s 165 (Mitchell Stokes 52).

 

 

DIVISION 3A REVIEW 25th JULY 2009

 

Moddershall A have opened a gap at the top after a remarkable game at home to Hem Heath/Forsbrook. Modd A were rolled-out for just 91 with Simon Wood taking 5 wickets. But Upal Indrasiri and Shaun Brian then were in unplayable form and ensured that the visitors were dismissed for a paltry 33 in reply.

 

Second placed Bagnall slipped up at Eccleshall as Matt Pepper’s 4-28 ensured the visitors could only muster a total of 103. Jamie Mansfield’s unbeaten 49 ensured no slip ups for Eccleshall as they won by six wickets.

 

Porthill A are hot on Bagnall’s heels now after they beat Endon quite comfortably. Mike Dawson took four Porthill wickets and received excellent support from Barry Briggs and Mark Austin as Porthill were dismissed for 163. But  Chris Matthews’ three wickets were key as Endon were reduced to a total of 89.

 

Relegation-threatened Woore were hammered at home by Oakamoor with only Jonty Bailey putting up solid resistance with four Oakamoor wickets. M Ayub smashed 72 as Oakamoor set Woore a target of 176, but Eddie Brookes’ 3-7 helped the visitors to a comfortable 109 run victory and leaves Woore in trouble.

 

But bottom club Norton-in-Hales are still 28 points adrift after they were comprehensively beaten at home by Hanford. Roger Davies’ unbeaten 60 was the backbone of Hanford’s 158, and Mick Coxon’s four wickets eased the visiting team to an 81 run victory that moves them into mid-table.

 

Wedgwood/Stanfields are still firmly in the promotion shake-up as they beat Meir Heath/Fenton at home in a tight game. Gareth Lello with an unbeaten half-century saw the home side set a commanding total of  174-8 declared, and Paul Farmer’ solid 38 kept the visitors in the hunt. But Richie Jarvis and Ade Lello’s good form continued, and they both took four wickets as the home side ran out victors by just 22 runs.
