England skippers Strauss and Edwards to lend a hand
with NatWest CricketForce 2010

England captains Andrew Strauss and Charlotte Edwards will be swapping their cricket whites for paintbrushes and overalls when they launch this year’s NatWest CricketForce at Harrow St Mary’s CC in London on Friday, March 26th.

The pair will kick off the three-day long volunteering initiative refurbishing local cricket clubs around the country. Fellow England star Graeme Swann, and his Nottinghamshire team-mates will take part at Gedling Colliery CC, near Nottingham on Saturday March 27th.

The programme will round off on Sunday, March 28th when Scarborough CC, will invite England pace bowler James Anderson and former Test Umpire Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird to join forces with volunteers and NatWest staff aiming to rejuvenate one of the oldest and most distinguished cricket grounds in the country.

The 2010 NatWest CricketForce will be the biggest in the project’s nine-year history with more than 1,500 clubs taking part and an estimated 85,000 volunteers: a bigger volunteering programme than the Olympics.

Tax rebates for CASC’s – Act now

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

twenty-pounds-notes.jpg

Community Amateur Sports Clubs (  CASC’s  ) that receive donations with nothing given in return can get tax rebates for the last 6 years provided  they were registered when the donation was received. They must however make a claim before 31st March 2010 since after that date they can only go back 4 years. One of the benefits of being a CASC is that Gift Aid is available so that a donation of £10.00 can result in a tax refund of £2.82: cricket clubs have often overlooked this but now is there chance to go back and review the position .The club must obtain the appropriate Gift Aid declarations from the donors. A donor’s single declaration can cover all gifts made to date and in the future so this is not as difficult as it may sound. The sums for the last six years can be substantial and will also include interest. Qualifying donations of £1,000 pa for the last 6 years will result in a tax refund of nearly £1,300 so it’s worth it.  Cricket club Treasurers should act now before the time limit reduces!
