Talbot Shield Quarter Finals Report

The Talbot Shield Quarter Finals took place on Sunday and saw Burslem, Ashcombe Park, Sandyford and Longton into the semi finals.

Burslem won with a ball to spare as they chased down Audley’s 162
Kyle Brassington (3-40) did the damage for Burslem as they restricted Audley to a modest total.
In reply, Andrew Hurd (60) played a captain’s knock to ensure his side make it into the last four.

Ashcombe Park had a comfortable 56-run win over Leek.
After posting 194 thanks to Krishan Iyengar’s 51 and Josh Johnson’s 32 their bowlers then ran through Leek with Mitch Cartlidge (3-34) and Chris Bradstreet (3-41) taking three wicket apiece.
Matt Bowcock did provide some resistance with 37 but it was to no avail.

Sandyford recorded a commanding 96-run win over Premier League opposition in Knypersley.
Opener Daniel Hughes (59) lead the attack as Sandyford hit 244. Knypersley’s Tom East (3-35) was the pick of the bowlers.
Knypersley’s reply started well at 60-1 but a collapse to 65-5 put the game to bed.
Only Michael Caddie (37) dug his heels in as Daniel Lyth (3-40) and Neil Skilcorn (3-16) helped to dismiss Knypersley for 148.

In the remaining match, Longton chased down Little Stoke’s total to run away with a five-wicket win.
Little Stoke hit 226-9 thanks mainly to Steve Degg (84) and Darren Irving (85).
But consistency in Longton’s top order from Sam Thompson (54), Luke Woodward (52) and Thomas Mellor (53 not out) saw Longton into the semi’s in the last over.

PREMIER LEAGUE

 

In the top of the Waterworld Premier Division clash, Barlaston’s run chase came to an abrupt end as the weather halted proceedings against Little Stoke.

Little Stoke hit 131-9 off their 34 overs with opener John Hancock (46) top scoring and Barlaston’s Niroshan Bandaratilleke (5-26) tearing through the middle order.

Barlaston were 70-2 off 20 overs in reply when play came to a close, leaving Muhammad Khan unbeaten on 32 and both sides with a share of the spoils.

 

Knypersley completed a six-wicket over Porthill Park.

David Cotton’s 51 and Neil Ellsmore’s 32 helped Knypersley to 142-9 off a reduced 30 overs, Dan Hancock chipping in with 3-14.

But Ben McGuire’s rapid 52 off 36 balls ensured a Knypersley win in the 26th over.

 

Stone and Hem Heath had to share the points in a reduced overs game as the weather ruled out any chance of a result.

Stone hit 161-8 off their overs, with Phillip Cheadle top scoring on 56.

Hem Heath were 49-1 in the 13th over when play stopped, John Cheadle hitting 32.

 

Moddershall’s match with Elworth was also abandoned despite Elworth finishing on 32-6 in reply to Moddershall’s 136-8.

Hamza Siddique hit 66 and Elworth’s Yasir (3-38) and Steve Morgan (3-41) were the pick of the bowlers.

Play was stopped in the 10th over with Elworth in disarray on 32-6 after Anwar Ali (4-16) and Mohammad Arif (2-14) tore through the top order.

 

Wood Lane encounter with Audley also ended in an abandoned match. Wood Lane posted 141-9 off 34 overs, and Audley were on course to knock off the total at 101-5 after 20 overs before the rain came.

 

The elements ruled out any chance of a ball being bowled at Longton in their clash with Burslem.

 

DIVISION ONE

 

Leek remain top of the JSW Insurance Division One with a winning draw over Betley.

Leek posted 183-9 with Mohammad Hussain (50), Ross Dearden (37 not out) and Colin Dearden (26 not out) as the last pair put on 62.

Adrian Butler claimed respectable figures of 5-29 from a 15-over spell.

After Greg Willott (4-53) dealt with Betley’s top order the chase petered out with Jamie Jervis (43) seeing out the game before rain came.

 

Only five wickets were taken between Cheadle and Oulton as their match was abandoned.

Cheadle hit 201-2 off 33 overs thanks to an unbeaten 99 from Luck Woodcock, ably supported by Darren Plant (59).

Henry Wright (28) and Harish Patel (34) hit scores for Oulton as they finished on 80-3 off 21 overs.

 

In other abandoned games, Meir Heath’s Iftikhar Asghar took 5-27 to restrict Rode Park & Lawton to 101-7 but they couldn’t reach the chase before the elements, only hitting 72-2.

 

Half centuries from Craig Grimley (55) and Dan Hammond (59) helped Blythe Bridge to post 222-7 from 37 overs. Norton were 62-2 when play was stopped.

 

Sandyford were eight runs off a win as the weather ruined their chance of going top.

Leycett hit 113-8 off 30 overs with Daniel Redfern top scoring on 29.

Sandyford were 107-6 after 20 overs thanks to Darren Long’s 41 and a further 36 from James Pringle. Both sides came away with a draw.

 

Whitmore were also denied a win by the weather. Having bowled Stafford out for 90, they had to finish on 61-0 as the weather took a turn for the worse.

Muhammad Fazil took outstanding figures of 8-26 to roll Stafford, with Jordan Wood (29) top scoring.

But play was stopped after 10 overs leaving Andrew Whitehead’s (38 not out) and Andrew Wagg’s (16 not out) efforts in vain.

 

DIVISION TWO

 

Checkley chased down Crewe total of 60 inside 19 overs to give them a 12-point gap at the top of the ASC Financial Management Division Two.

Iain Carr (5-24) and Ben Johnson (5-34) did the damage for Checkley.

Johnson then top scored with 19 as Checkley romped home.

 

Only two wickets fell for over 400 runs at Weston in their match with Silverdale.

Weston hit 227-1 declared with Martin Dawson carrying his bat on 104. He was supported well by Michael Alexander (56) and Raj Kumar (52 not out).

And Silverdale gave the chase a good go finishing on 192-1 after 40 overs with Mick Moore hitting an unbeaten 103 with Adam Michelson (53 not out).

 

Ranil Dhammika’s 100 couldn’t prevent a draw between Meakins and Kidsgrove.

Dhammika’s ton came in Meakins’s total of 202-6 off 35 overs.

Kidsgrove could only muster 86-3 as play was stopped in the 17th over.

 

There was another draw between Alsager and Wedgwood & Stanfields.

Alsager hit 136-8 with Richard Cooper top scoring with an unbeaten 51. Richie Jervis claimed 5-61 for Wedgwood & Stanfields.

Wedgwood & Stanfields were 43-4 in reply when play came to a close due to rain.

 

Moddershall ‘A’ posted 126-8 against Caverswall. Dave Stupples top scored on 35 with Caverswall’s Christopher Baranowski (4-32) the pick of the bowlers.

Caverswall found themselves 69-4 as play came was halted in the 12th over.

 

Newcastle & Hartshill hit 116-9 off 33 overs with Rejith Kumaran hitting an attacking 37.

Mohammad Junaid Khan (5-57) lead the attack for Ashcombe Park with support from Lee Slater (2-33) and David Clowes (2-16).

In reply, Ashcombe Park were 90-5 in the 22nd over when the rain came again, Philip Clowes hitting an assured 52 in the circumstances.

 

DIVISION THREE

 

Bagnall stay top of the Little Gym Division Three.

 

Having hit 178-4 batting first against Hem Heath/ Forsbrook, rain stopped any chance of a result.

Andy Rowson (71 not out) and Robert Ward (49 not out) provided Bagnall with a respectable score.

Hem Heath/ Forsbrook only batted 11 overs being play was stopped, finishing on 25-2.

 

Bignall End’s match against Eccleshall ended in similar circumstances.

Bignall End posted 150-5 with Andrew Howle top scoring with an unbeaten 57 before Eccleshall’s innings were promptly ended on 74-4.

 

Endon’s Naseer Khan hit an incredible 143 off 67 balls against Woore in their innings of 324 all out.

Andrew Kenvyn (4-51) and Minesh Gunalan (3-76) did their best to restrict Khan who blazed the ball to all parts inside 30 overs.

Ramesh Gunalan (82) and Shanker Gunalan (109 not out) ensured Woore’s chase was respectable and potentially achievable had rain not interrupted the game, the score 211-5 in the 23rd over.

 

Five wickets from Andrew Barker (5-34) helped Wootton restrict Hanford to 127-9 off 33 overs, with opener Roger Davies (58) the mainstay of the Hanford innings.

Wootton found themselves in a sticky situation at 64-6 when the rain returned in the 20th over. Mick Coxon (5-27) doing the damage for Hanford.

 

There was no play in Meir Heath/ Fenton’s game with Stone SP as well as Porthill Park ‘A’s clash with an in-form Oakamoor side.

Talbot Cup News

Eight sides were battling it out in the sun on Sunday in the Talbot Cup Quarter-Finals.

Cheadle defeated Premier League opponents Porthill Park to record a six-wicket win.
Darren Plant hit 59 and Shaun Rashid (26 not out) as they completed the win in the 33rd over, finishing on 158-4.
Previously, 31 from Matthew Hole and Sohail Zaroof’s unbeaten 46 helped them to 155 all out, with Ian Bailey (3-24) the pick of the bowlers.

Norton also progressed to the last four of the competition with a comfortable 88-run win to Newcastle & Hartshill.
Norton batted first and posted 252-6 with scores from Tony Dutton (51), Phil Dutton (41) and Alex Graham (36).
And Phil Dutton completed a superb all-round performance to tear through Newcastle & Hartshill’s lower order, claiming 5-26 and dismissing them for 164.

Daniel Brierley’s stylish century ensured Wood Lane made it to the semi’s against Weston.
Brierley hit 124 off 99 balls and was ably supported by Shane Wills (63) as the pair put on 187 for the first wicket. They knocked off Weston target of 225-7 with ease in the 37th over.
Earlier, Michael Alexander (61) and Philip Stockton (52) hit half centuries for Weston.

Whitmore chased down Caverswall’s target of 223 to complete a five-wicket win, propelling them into the semis.
Caverswall’s Joshua Edge hit 97 with support from Robert King (49) to post a challenging total.
Three wicket apiece from Sibitain Haider (3-52) and Mudasa Butt (3-36) did the damage for Whitmore.
Good knocks from Joe Bridgewater (44), Justin Mould (62) and Muhammad Fazil (67) ensured the win for Whitmore after 41 overs.
