PREMIER DIVISION
As the season nears an end it’s the relegation candidates at the foot of the Waterworld Premier Division that is proving more uncertain than Little Stoke’s hunt for the title, as they move away with a 39-point lead at the top.
Little Stoke faced a struggling Moddershall side, and Daniel Colclough (5-33) and Shabir Ahmed (3-35) tore through their line-up, dismissing them for 86, of which opener Hamza Siddique scored 50.
Little Stoke chased the runs in a professional manner as they cruised to a nine-wicket win with Richard Adams (40 not out) and Greg Massingham (29 not out) leading them home.
Stone beat second-placed Burslem to move well clear of the relegation mire. Shaun Jenkinson hit 83 in Stone’s total of 168 with Samiullah Khan taking 5-89. In reply, all the Stone bowlers chipped in through Matt Stupples (3-26) and two wickets apiece from Johanthan McCredie (2-26), Andrew Winfield (2-25) and Michael Tudehope (2-19) as Burslem fell for 109.
Hem Heath couldn’t record the win they needed for guaranteed survival against their rivals Longton.
Will Purser hit 63 with support from Phil Adams (31) and Ben Lucas (25) in their sides 166. Stephen Atkinson (3-27) and Qasier Abbas (4-43) were the pick of the Hem Heath attack.
And it was Purser who starred with the ball, taking 7-26 as Hem Heath were rolled for 45, with John Seabridge top scoring on 17.
Porthill Park did record a well-needed win over Wood Lane to ensure they stay in next year’s top flight cricket.
Mark Bengry claimed 6-44 as Porthill dismissed Wood Lane for 110, chasing 147-7. Only Ashar Zaidi provided any resistance for the home side as he hit 48.
Earlier, scores from David Cotton (39) and Sohail Zaroof (30) helped Porthill to the winning total.
Knypersley edged a winning draw away from Elworth to keep them in trouble at the foot of the table.
Ben McGuire hit a swashbuckling 87 including four boundaries and four maximums. He had good support from Paul Goodwin (46) in their side’s total of 177-7. Yasir Ali was the pick of the Elworth attack taking 4-37.
In reply, Ali hit an unbeaten 37 but lacked support as they closed on 120-7, a handful of runs short of claiming the extra five points.
Audley dominated their match against Barlaston and were rewarded with a winning draw.
Sean Price hit an unbeaten 63 and scores from Richard Holloway (35), Michael Longmore (40) and Roger Sillence (31) helped them to a commanding 185-4.
Ben Grange hit 32 in Barlaston reply but their middle order collapsed thanks to Craig Barker (3-16) which dented any hopes of a run chase as they closed on 117-7.
DIVISION ONE
Leek head towards the 400-point mark with another win against Stafford.
Teenagers Alex Mellor (77) and Alex Thompson (95) steered Leek to a commanding 219-4 declared before the bowlers dismissed Stafford for 163.
Colin Dearden (5-17) mopped up the latter Stafford batsmen as only Dave Foster (36) and Joe Askey (30) provided much resistance.
Sandyford cruised to a perfect 10-wicket win over Betley.
James Pringle took 4-22 with two wickets apiece from Andrew Barnett (2-20), Sohail Rauf (2-27) and Neil Silkcorn (2-11) as Betley were rolled for 69.
Sandyford’s openers then took a mere eight overs to reach the total through Stephen Shemilt (20 not out) and Craig Leese (50 not out).
Chasing promotion behind Sandyford are Meir Heath, and not to be outdone themselves they also recorded their own 10-wicket win over Blythe.
Nick Locker (3-21) and Rich Brough (3-10) took three wickets apiece and teenager Adam Birch (2-24) provided support as Blythe were 90 all out.
The chase was all over after 11.3 overs thanks to Richard Stonier (54 not out) and Billy Locker (27 not out).
Cheadle’s Chris Barker bowled Leycett over as they claimed a well-needed win.
Vishal Tripathi, a former Lancashire 2XI player who is now at Northants, top scored with 79 in Cheadle’s 201-9 before Barker’s 6-38 dismissed Leycett for 90.
Whitmore’s Irfan Fazil took 7-46 as they beat Oulton batting first.
Only Harish Patel (40) stood his ground for Oulton as they were dismissed for 110, chasing 157 for victory.
Earlier, Justin Mould’s unbeaten 50 alongside Andrew Whitehead (29) helped Whitmore to a winning total.
Rode Park & Lawton’s Amal Athulathmudali produced a match-winning bat and ball performance to almost single-handedly beat Norton.
Athulathmudali hit 96 in Rode Park’s total of 166. The total was restricted due to excellent bowling from Ian Reynolds (7-44).
But not to be outstaged Athulathmudali produced his own seven-wicket haul to claim 7-49 and dismiss Norton for 141, Josh Graham (58) and Matt Rogalski (32) the main contributors.
DIVISION TWO
Weston sealed their place in Division One next year after a win over Caverswall.
Caverswall batted first, posting 189 thanks to scores from Josh Edge (32) and John Cookson (35). Chris Barrat (4-20) was the pick of the Weston attack.
In reply, Raj Kumar’s unbeaten 89 alongside Phil Stockton’s 54 not out helped the steer Weston over the line to a seven wicket win.
Ashcombe Park keeps their promotion hopes alive after a winning draw against Checkley.
Checkley posted 127-7 thanks to scores from the majority of the line-up, Jason Brown top scoring with 21 not out. Andrew Jones (3-37) and Nathan Ball (3-30) were the pick of the Park attack.
Park’s reply revolved around Dave Proffitt who hit an unbeaten 55 but saw his side falling around him, as they were left to hold on in the end having been 53-8 to finish on 111-8.
Crewe beat Newcastle & Hartshill in a match where only 126 runs were scored.
Crewe hit 67 with Shazad Rana hitting 25. Andrew Keates took 6-40 for Newcastle and they look to pick themselves out of the relegation mire.
And all looked pretty at 20-1 but Crewe’s openers Rana (6-27) and Kimany Gregoire (4-27) tore through the rest of the pack to roll Newcastle for 59.
Mitchell Stokes claimed 7-30 as Silverdale beat Wedgwood & Stanfields by 165 runs.
Silverdale batted first posting 219-3 thanks to Adam Michelson (69 not out) and Stephen Jones (107 not out). Stokes then polished off the job in hand as Wedgwood could only muster 54 all out.
Moddershall ‘A’s professional Ijaz Ahmed produced a match-winning bat and ball display to help them to victory over Kidsgrove.
Ahmed bowled unchanged to claim 7-75 in Kidsgrove total of 135. Dave Follett (45) and Elliot Maginnis (32) were the main contributors.
Ahmed then hit 60 opening the batting for Moddershall, and when he was out on 112-3 they collapsed briefly but Sam Moores (27 not out) kept a cool head as they finished on 136-7.
Meakins completed a comfortable six-wicket win over Alsager.
Ranil Dhammika claimed 5-37 from his 22 over spell as Alsager posted 118-9 having recovered from 69-8 thanks to Paul Tibbetts (38 not out).
And Dhammika hit an unbeaten 36 in reply as Meakins cruised over the winning line.
DIVISION THREE
Bignall End sealed their promotion to Division Two with a winning draw over second-placed Bagnall.
Bagnall’s Kashif Daud claimed 7-46 as Bignall End were 98 all out, the first time this season they have been dismissed for under 100, openers Kim Barnett (33) and Simon Howle (28) the main contributors.
But in reply, David Moreton took 6-33 to put Bagnall on the back foot as they clung on for the draw at 66-8.
Stone SP moved into third place with a win over Woore.
Ramesh Gunalan hit 42 as he top scored in Woore’s total of 128. Matthew Mee was the pick of the Stone attack claiming 5-35.
In reply, Phil Fitzherbet hit 35 and Stephen Aston (34) supported nicely as they creeped over the line to record a three-wicket win.
Eccleshall completed a comfortable win over Endon and hit the highest score of the day.
They posted 241-6 declared thanks to Robert Lakin’s 85 and an unbeaten 115 from Jack Boulton.
Endon were then dismissed for 106 in reply with Australian Richie Gallichan claiming 5-29.
Meir Heath/Fenton claimed a four-wicket win over Hem Heath/Forsbrook.
Hem Heath were dismissed for 103 with all the Meir Heath/Fenton bowlers chipping in. Darren Weston was the main contributor for Hem Heath, hitting 41.
And in reply, Chris Mellor’s unbeaten 51 put the game to bed with Hem Heath bowlers Ataur Rehman (2-37), Mark Rushton (2-51) and Callum Lovatt (2-6) taking two wickets apiece.
Oakamoor were left to settle with a winning draw in their match with Hanford.
Muhammad Ayub hit 82 and Matthew Carnwell scored an unbeaten 42 late on in their total of 186-5 declared.
In reply, Roger Davis hit 43 but lacked support as they closed on 130-7 with Steve Gilbert (3-18) and Ayub (3-17) the pick of the bowlers.
Wootton completed a convincing win over bottom-of-the-table Porthill Park ‘A’.
Wootton posted 221-8 thanks to Simon Barker (66), Clem Mellor (40) and Simon Little (35).
And in reply, James Carr took 4-18 to tear through Porthill’s top order as they crumbled to a disappointing 107 all out, with Chris Johnson left stranded on 31 not out.
